As my first blog entry as a Registered Acupuncturist here in Edmonton, I thought it fitting to make it somewhat personal.
During my graduation ceremonies in 2004, my colleagues and I stood together and took an oath. I have this oath on the wall of my treatment room and periodically I read it. I believe in these words and stand by my oath wholeheartedly.
“I dedicate myself to the service of humanity as a practitioner of the art and science of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
I will honor my teachers and all who have preserved and developed the knowledge of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
I will offer my services as an Acupuncturist and Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner without prejudice and treat all who seek my care regardless of their racial background, their sexual orientation, their social and economical status or their appearance.
I will endeavor to continually improve my abilities as a healer through study, reflection and genuine concern for humanity.
According to my best ability and judgment, I will use methods of treatment that follow the principles of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine:
- To do no harm
- To act in harmony with the healing power of nature
- To address the fundamental causes of disease
- To treat the whole person, body, mind and spirit
- And to teach the principles of a healthy lifestyle
I will keep confidential whatever I am privileges to witness and needs to be confidential.
With my whole heart, before this gathering of witnesses, entering the community of practitioners of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, I pledge to remain true to this oath.”
